NICK THOMAS

After retiring, Nick and his wife Jeanne moved from Michigan to Scottsdale, where Nick began teaching and also serving as treasurer for his church. He used his homeowners association experience in Michigan to help his own Scottsdale HOA. Back in Michigan, Nick served in the following capacities:.

  • Wayne County (Detroit): Board of Auditors, FEMA Liaison Officer, and Community and Economic Development Director

  • City of Dearborn: Director for two Community Development Commissions, and Assistant to the Major for Intergovernmental Relations

  • City of Ferndale: Community Economic Development Director

  • City of East Lansing: Housing and State Certified Building Official, Chief Code Enforcement Officer, Liaison to five neighborhood associations and Michigan State University Housing Office, and president of two homeowners associations

He has served Scottsdale on the City Housing Board and on the Neighborhood Advisory Commission. He became concerned with Scottsdale's lack of efforts to upgrade South Scottsdale, and became an activist in this area.

As a citizen and as a COGS board member, Nick is concerned about development at the cost of residential neighborhoods, including the impact of increasing height, density, and traffic.
